Cabinet Secretary, Nicola Stugeon, MSP gave the keys of the last house built in a £10.5 million development to its new tenant, Patricia McPherson at a well attended opening on 14 March 2008.
Director of Govan Housing Association Germaine Hahn said – “This is a great day for Govan seeing the realisation of 89 homes for sale and rent and just the beginning of an ambitious programme through the Central Govan Action Plan to regenerate the area. At last the local community can start to see things happening and some of the promises made taking shape and becoming real.”
The project also provided opportunities for local artists. Matt Baker was pleased to be involved in the project and be the lead artist for the permanent art works. “Public art is an important way of incorporating something of the unique identity of a place into a development. The “Kintra Signets” designates an individual symbol from the history of the area to each of the 89 homes – residents are given a map to find their own symbol in its location within the development.”
