Recruitment

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Govan Housing Association was formed in 1971 to tackle the housing problems of the centre of Govan, through rehabilitation of the traditional Victorian tenement properties, which dominate the area.

It is no longer designated a community based association, but in practical terms continues to operate with the local community at the heart of its service.

It is a charitable housing association and is therefore exempt from the "right to buy" clause contained within the Housing (Scotland) Act 2002, although tenants of some 165 properties acquired from Scottish Homes in November 2004 do retain their right to buy.

The Association has approximately 1,330 properties made up of housing for rent and shared ownership.  In addition to this, the Association manages over 440 properties for domestic owners and nearly 70 commercial premises.

Traditional tenements make up the bulk of the Association's stock and amount to approximately 750 properties.  New build makes up the rest of the Association's stock.

The Association is committed to the regeneration of Govan and has been fully involved in the development of the Central Govan Action Plan, copies of which can be accessed on Glasgow City Council’s website.  As a consequence of this there are a number of housing and wider role projects being taken forward.  The Association has 2 newbuild developments currently on site at St Savior’s and St Gerard’s School sites.

The Association wishes to promote equality in housing and employs an Ethnic Minorities Development Officer and holds “Positive about Disabled People” accreditation.

The Association uses Office 2000, with word 2000, excel and access, however this is soon to be upgraded to MS Office 2010.  The Housing and Finance system is Aareon QLx and all office based staff have access to email and the internet.

The Association currently operates flexible working hours for

some posts.
